AMI produced a documentary on Alt Route Projects and Skate Bats, watch here to see what we’ve been up to in the last year:

Our program

Skate Bats is a skateboard club that has been designed to teach and facilitate visually impaired and low vision individuals how to approach, learn and enjoy skateboarding.

Our staff and volunteers create a safe, positive environment where vision loss does not impede the mobile freedom skateboarding provides.

The overall goal is to give each participant enough time, space and support to unlock skateboarding for themselves and incorporate this unique and exciting skill into their own creative and active lifestyle.

We are in our third year of skate lessons and are currently running indoor skate sessions at The Compound Skate Park throughout the winter.

Each participant lives with different types and amounts of vision loss, but they were all willing to take a risk, push themselves, and learn something new and difficult.

They all showed us they have the potential to become great skateboarders despite their vision loss.
